At Fellowship, it is common to sing a least one new arrangement of an old hymn each week. A couple of months ago, I was playing with Ronnie Freeman at church when he brought out a chart for a hymn I was unfamiliar with called Be Still My Soul. I was playing and only had a chord chart so I never focused on the words. I remember seeing one of the verses up on one of the screens and thinking that at some point I should look up the lyrics.
Tonight I decided was a good time to do this and I was amazed by what I found.
1. Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
leave to your God to order and provide;
in every change God faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: your best, your heavenly friend
through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
2. Be still, my soul: your God will undertake
to guide the future, as in ages past.
Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;
all now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
the Christ who ruled them while he dwelt below.
3. Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
when we shall be forever with the Lord,
when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
sorrow for forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past,
all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
leave to your God to order and provide;
in every change God faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: your best, your heavenly friend
through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
2. Be still, my soul: your God will undertake

Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;

Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know

I love the line "Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know the Christ who ruled them while he dwelt below." I'm sure anyone reading this can see that this is my current facebook status. I can't see it enough though. It paints such a beautiful picture. I just had to share it on my blog.
